Time For A New Lease Of Life
A ship conversion or upgrade programme with the right engineering partner could mean better investment returns in the current economic climate.
Ship conversions often present a viable alternative to acquiring a new vessel. While extensive engineering is required to change the use of a ship or modify its capabilities, conversion programmes can help to extend the value and lifespan of your assets—in addition to benefits such as cost advantages and shorter lead times for those aspiring to enter new market segments.
For more than five decades, the marine arm of ST Engineering has been a partner of choice to commercial fleet owners seeking sophisticated, high-quality conversions. We have undertaken conversion projects ranging from the lengthening of ships to vessel retrofits, refurbishments, upgrading and more. We have also helped to breathe new life into old ships ranging from fishing trawlers, platform supply vessels, seismic operation vessels and oil drillers.
The recent project secured by ST Engineering, is the construction of a mid-ship block section weighing approximately 2,700 tonnes. The contract was awarded by a fully owned subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis), a Dutch dredging giant specialising in dredging, offshore contracting, salvage and marine services. The project entails a wide range of outfitting works — comprising extensive piping, as well as electrical and mechanical installations. The block will be completed and delivered to Boskalis in 3Q 2021.
